Why did Gina Callahan jump off the Cooper River Bridge?
In Charleston, South Carolina, Dewey Moses is a vegetable farmer, a bluegrass musician, and a recovering alcoholic. Since getting booted out of his house and his band, he’s trying to get back on top.
Now, he’s a year sober, and selling vegetables at the farmer’s market. But what he knows better than growing heirloom tomatoes is how to get down to the bottom of things. What started out as a favor for a friend is proving to be his most lucrative talent investigative work.
When Faye Callahan, the wife of one of the most powerful land developers in the South, comes to see him, she puts his talents to the test. Her daughter jumped off the Cooper River Bridge a few days before. She left a suicide note in her abandoned car. There were witnesses.
But Faye doesn’t believe it. Having just fallen in love, her daughter was as happy as she’d ever been. Why would she take her own life? Agreeing to help, Dewey finds out quickly that sometimes it’s best to leave things alone.
Off You Go is a smart and quick read, and Dewey Moses is irresistible.

I was drawn to the book because of it's setting in Charleston, SC. It is always a little more interesting when I can recognize the landmarks. I liked the fact that the narrator was depicted as a decent person who wanted to help others and wanted to leave a favorable mark on the world. He had struggled to overcome his alcoholism, and he wanted to keep his marriage alive. He was a family man. Also, Walker builds into the story a plug for saving the environment and an objection to land developers who ignore the environment. I was pleased when the missing girl was reunited with her mother, but I thought that part of the story was not developed as well as it might have been. It seemed as if Walker took the easy way out when he ended the book without developing that character and her story further. However, I can see that he is laying the groundwork for his next novel when he sets up a possible business with his friend, a fellow musician. I might read more of Walker's work.Product details

This is a well written book that captures the charms of Charleston while telling a good tale. It was short and wrapped up the story with a satisfying surprise ending. I want more stories from Boo Walker!
Boo was like a story teller, a friend. Weaving a story for you in a southern relax way. He’s got a goal, will it come about, hoping in the next book we find out. He seems like a nice guy, who finally knows what he wants from life. Readers will enjoy this as he figures out what really happened to Gina.
3.5 Stars. Dewy Moses, a reformed drunk and tomato farmer, is also a Charleston-based PI hired to find out why a 28 year old College of Charleston graduate and Southern Belle jumped off one of the Charleston area bridges. Without a gun and not really a tough guy, Dewy solves the case including finding the young lady alive and in hiding. Dewy get hit on by a very attractive neighbor but remains true to his ex wife. Good book. I’ll read the next adventure when it comes out.
These people a real to me, dialog is completely believable and held my attention on every page. I like this hero because there is none of that macho, phoney, bravado, he is an every day guy, with real problems of his own. I want to visit the places he talks about!
